Similar to the Western tradition of sending Christmas cards, in Japan, there is a tradition of sending nengajo or new year’s greeting cards. Nengajo is usually written on postcards with the image of that year’s Chinese zodiac on the front, which was the year of the cow/ox for 2021. Like a lot of us, 2020 was a difficult year for me and made me reflect on my life so far. I planned to quit my corporate job and pursue a new avenue, leaving Kansas City and my old life behind. In the background, I drew milk-filled buildings representative of the Kansas City skyline, with me and my husband galloping as cows to a new adventure.

うし年・2021年の年賀状です。2020年は新型コロナ禍に明け暮れ、多くの人々と同様に、私にとっても大変困難な年でした。家にいる時間が多くなり、これまでの人生を振り返ることができました。会社を辞め、新しい道を進むこと決め、その決心をイラストしました。牛乳びんの形をしたカンザスシティのランドマークを描き、牛になった私と夫は新しい冒険へ向かっています。
